Eternal Perspective​

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. -–Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV

What is your greatest desire? Is it for wealth, respect, security, or marital bliss? There are a variety of goals that you might strive toward, but your ultimate desire should be to know God intimately. God is far more real than the world you can see, hear, or touch.

He is your Creator, and His desire is to dwell within you. Jesus promises, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23 RSV). Isn’t it incredible that the God of the universe desires to be one with you? Invite Jesus into your heart and life. Read His word and get to know Him intimately. Walk with Him and talk with Him. Make this your life’s passion.

Keep worldly treasures in perspective. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” (Matthew 6:19-20 RSV).  Resist the urge to focus on material goods. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

“Man is like a breath, his days are like a passing shadow” (Psalm 144:4 ESV). Time is short. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV). Therefore, tune out worldly distractions, and seek the Lord with all your heart.
